Paintball Fundraiser Nov. 11, 2017

Hi All!

We will be having a paintball fundraiser at Davis Paintball on Nov. 11, 2017 at 10 am. $40 a person cover the gun rental, air and enough paintballs to get you started. You buy more from them!

In order to get the most back we need 40 players, right now we have 20 players. Please let me and Ben Wollrich (see email below) if you, your child, a friend, a parent or anyone you know can come! This is open to the public!

2017-2018 Season Practice Begins October 30, 2017

Club Practice will run concurrently with the Middle School season. If you are a member of Davis Wrestling Club for 2017-2018 practice starts 10/30/17 Holmes JR High, Monday- Friday 3:45 pm-5:30 pm. Please make sure to be on time to pick up your child(ren)

Tomorrow is the start of the 2017-2018 season. All 5th and 6th Graders need a current USAW card. It is $100 to join the Davis Wrestling Club. Check can be made out to Davis Wrestling Club, you can sign up at practice tomorrow if you did not do so at parent meeting

Everyone needs a White shirt so if you are not planning on buying one let me know ASAP. We have a limited number of uniforms for 7th and 8th only. 5th and 6th will need to buy one if they wish to attend tournaments.

Joining the Wrestling Team

 

Starting February 14, 2017-March 30, 2017 --The Davis Wrestling Club is happy to announce the 4th-6th grade training times! We would love to have your 4th-6th grader join us every Tuesday and Thursday at Holmes Junior High in the MPR from 4pm-5pm barring any school holidays through the end of March. The cost is $100, $50 of that is a USA Wrestling card needed for insurance purposes; 4th-6th graders cannot  practice without the card. The Davis Wrestling Club 6th-8th grades will be mentors for the younger ages.

For the second year in a row Davis’ middle school wrestlers took 2nd place as a team in YCAL loosing to C.A. Jacobs, Dixon,119-118. Dixon had one team point deducted for unsportsman like conduct. The tournament was scored 10 points for first place finish, 8 points for second, and 6 points for third. With only your highest scoring wrestler collecting team points in any weight class. Davis had a strong showing with 7th grade Zoe Pritchard (76 pounds) going 1-1 and finishing in second place. Kosta Christopolus a 7th grader (83) in his first year wrestling took first place going 3-0 on the day. Adrienna Turner (83) took first with a pin and caused several wrestlers to move up a weight class to avoid having to wrestle her. Tristen Wollrich (95) battled his way to second place. Alex Curtain (100) relentlessly took over his competition going 3-0 on the day with 2 pins including a pin in the finals. Cormac Roethler (103) battled to a second place finish. Joseph Fields (108) took third place. Noor Mashiana (112) ran the tables and earned a first place finish. Ethan Rosendale (122) took second place. Aaron Turner (135) was 2-1 taking third place. Antonio Velasquez (142) was 2-1 taking third place. Ethan Horowitz (153) wrestled well earning third place. James Davis a 7th grader (153) took second place. Vance Tangren another 7th grader (168) had a dominating performance going 3-0 with 3 pins and stood at the top of the podium for first. Zach Brooks (185) was 2-0 with 2 pins locking up first place. Also wrestling well today, but not placing were: Tommy Elliot (116), Joey Traverso (116), Zoe West (122), Jaxsen Aguilar (128), Frank Yates (128),  Cole Robben (128), Alexander Cordone (142), and Erica Villalobos (168).

  Davis Middle School Wrestling girls and JV boys travelled to Edward Harris Middle School, Elk Grove for a JV boys and a girls tournament. The Davis girls led the way with Zoe West 128lbs in first place going a perfect 3-0 with 3 pins. After suffering an injury Sunday, in a tournament West recovered quickly to turn out a tremendous performance today. Zoe Pritchard 76lbs finished in first place going 2-1 and collecting 1 pin. Alyssa Campos 95lbs finished in second place and was 2-1 with 2 pins. On the JV boys side Antonio Velasquez 135lbs and Ethan Horowitz 142lbs were also perfect on the day going 3-0 with 3 pins each finishing in first place. Tommy Elliot 116lbs took 2nd place and was 2-1 with 1 pin. Joey Traverso 112lbs and Jorge Garcia 103lbs both took third place and each had one pin. At 135lbs Alexander Cordone wrestled well finishing in third place.
 

 

The Davis Wrestling Club won 3rd place in the girls only tournament Jan 15, 2017!

On January 15, the Davis middle school girls team traveled to Hogan Middle School, Vallejo, for a girls only wrestling tournament. Adrienna Turner 89lbs after going undefeated in a coed tournament in Saturdays TOC qualification tournament at Bella Vista High School, Sacramento, turned her sights on the female contenders. Again Turner took first, had no points scored against her, and again she was undefeated. Elevating her performance this time by pinning every opponent who stepped on the mat with her. Zoe Pritchard 76lbs was also undefeated with no points scored against her. Pritchard had 2 pins and took first place as well. Alyssa Campos 95lbs battled her way to second place going 2-1 on the day with one pin. Zoe West 128lbs was 1-1. She was wrestling well until she was accidentally poked in the eye and was forced to medically con her match and the tournament. 
        Pritchard, Turner, and Campos are often training partners at practice. All of the girls also practice with the Davis middle school boys to train. They are constantly improving and pushing themselves to get better.

On January 14, the Davis middle school varsity wrestlers travelled to Bella Vista for a Tournament Of Champions (TOC) qualification tournament.Adrienna Turner 89lbs took first place for her second first place TOC qualification this year. Turner dominated the 13 wrestler bracket while wrestling only male opponents. She was a perfect 4-0 on the day with no opponent scoring a point against her in the tournament. The only point she surrendered was to a technical violation in her second match. She is scheduled to compete in a girls only tournament Sunday. Aaron Turner 135lbs wrestled his way to second place for his second qualification of the season. Turner had a brilliant double leg attack that was unstoppable. He was able to lift several opponents into the air and deliver them to the mat on their backs. At 100lbs Alex Curtain battled back from an early defeat to place third and qualify for the TOC. Also wrestling today but not able to place in this tournament were: Tristen Wollrich 95lbs, Ethan Rosendale 122lbs, Vance Tangren 153lbs, and James Davis 153lbs. Written By Ben Davis

     Wednesday night in Dixon, was the first test of the Davis middle school wrestlers who competed against C.A. Jacobs the defending YCAL champions. The Davis wrestlers managed to achieve a 51-32 team victory and remain undefeated as a team 5-0. Coach Anthony Lewis said, “JV kids filled some varsity spot and fought hard.” At 89lbs Adrienna Turner won by technical superiority 16-0, and picked up 5 team points. At 95lbs Tristen Wollrich rolled through a cradle attempt by his opponent to score a pin and 6 team points. Noor Mashiana at 108lbs pulled out a decision for 3 team points. Ethan Rosendale at 128lbs moved up one weight class and still achieved a pin and 6 team points. Aaron Turner at 142lbs won by decision. James Davis 153lbs also won by decision adding 3 team points. And closing out the varsity was Zach Brooks 185lbs who pinned his opponent in the first round for 6 team points. In exhibition matches: Alyssa Campos 95lbs, Sean Doherty 135lbs, Ethan Horowitz 153lbs, and Vance Tangren 153lbs all picked up wins. The young wrestlers learned some valuable lessons in a closely contested battle. The team travels to Esparto next week before returning to Holmes Middle School, Davis, on January 25, at 4pm, for the final home meet before the YCAL tournament.

  The Davis combined middle school team travelled to Del Oro for a Tournament Of Champions (TOC) qualification tournament. Continuing his dominance Zach Brooks wrestling up a weight class at 185lbs and was 3-0 with 3 pins. No one was able to take Brooks into the second round this year. Brooks has pinned every opponent this year in the first round. This is Brooks’ second TOC qualification in as many tournaments. Also qualifying was Tristen Wollrich 100lbs going 3-0 with 2 pins. Wollrich was determined and driven and it showed in his relentless attacks and incredible pace. Wollrich took first place and qualified for TOC. Adrienna Turner 89lbs was 1-1 on the day with 1 pin. Turner took 2nd place in the tournament. Aaron Turner 142lbs was 3-2 with 1 pin. Turner wrestler with heart and fought his was to 3rd place. Vance Tangren 152lbs was 2-2 with 1 pin. He wrestled his way to a 3rd place finish using good solid take downs. Ethan Rosedale 122lbs was 3-2 with 1 pin. Rosendale took 4th place and wrestled tough in every match. James Davis 152lbs was 1-1 with 1 pin. Davis in a heated back and forth match with a Del Oro wrestler was illegally slammed in the 3rd round. Davis showed strong will and determination and managed to take the match to over time. Davis fought hard in over time but finally was taken to the mat and lost in over time. Davis was forced out of the tournament with an injury sustained from the illegal slam. Davis still managed to take 4th place.
        In the JV brackets Zoe Pritchard 76lbs was 3-1 with 2 pins. Prichard was aggressive and relentless throughout the day. At 100lbs Alyssa Campos took 1st. She was 3-0 with 1 pin. Campos dominated the bracket controlling her opponents with strong explosive power. Noor Mashiana 108lbs was 4-1 with 1 pin and took 2nd place. Mashiana was attacking legs with strong shots. Ethan Horowitz 152lbs dominated his Bracket going 3-0 with 3 pins taking first place. Horowitz used leg attacks and speed to overwhelm his opponents.Also wrestling well was Zoe West 128lbs and Frank Yates 135lbs. Both wrestlers represented Davis with fighting spirit and a never quit attitude.
        The undefeated Davis wrestling team goes head to head with C.A. Jacobs of Dixon, Wednesday, in Dixon. Both teams are undefeated in dual matches. The YCAL title will be determined by the winner of the YCAL tournament in Winters, February 4. This dual will be a show down of two of the top contenders. Also Wednesday, January 25, at 4pm, in the Holmes Gym our Davis grapplers will take on both Lee and Douglas middle schools in the last home dual of the season. Davis’ middle school combined wrestling team (Harper, Holmes, Emerson, and Davincci) Led by Coach Anthony Lewis, supported by the Holmes band, and a standing room only crowd pinned their way to a 70-33 team victory over Lee Middle School from Woodland, Wednesday night. Davis wrestler Tristen Wollrich 95lbs started the meet and rapidly hit a double leg take down putting his opponent on his back for a first round pin. After a few tough losses at 108lb, 112lb, and 116lb Davis grappler Ethan Rosendale 122lbs threw his opponent with a high amplitude head and arm throw and locked in a first round pin. Momentum had shifted back to Davis and first year wrestler 135lb Sean Doherty had an exciting back and forth scramble finally forcing his opponent on his back to secure a pin. At 142lbs Ethan Horowitz in his debut pinned his opponent with solid wrestling. Vance Tangren 152lbs rocketed in for a double leg take down and pinned his opponent in 28seconds. James Davis at 168lbs won a major decision 12-4 with a fierce ground game. Zack Brooks returned to his winning ways from last year pinning his opponent in the first round with powerful wrestling. In exhibition matches; Alex Curtain, Ethan Horowitz, Antonio Velasquez, and Zack Brooks pinned their opponents and Erica Villalobos won by major decision. It was a strong opening dual for the young Davis wrestlers and a promising future for wrestling in Davis.

The combined Davis Middle School wrestling team put together another top notch performance dominating Douglas Middle School, Woodland, 69-18. With the win Davis grapplers are 3-0 on the season. Kosta Christopulos 83lbs started off the wrestling meet with a back and forth battle, but Chistopulos gutted out a hard won 12-10 decision for Davis. Next up Adrienna Turner 89lbs launched a relentless attack pining her opponent in 32 seconds in the first round. Alex Curtain 100lbs used quick foot work and strong top skills to pin his opponent in 43 seconds. Joey Traverso 116lbs had a hard fought decision scoring multiple double leg take downs to secure the decision 9-3 for Davis. James Davis 168lbs scored two early take downs in the first round and then pinned his opponent in the second round. Zach Brooks bumped up to 205lbs to pin his opponent in 14 seconds. In exhibition matches Davis wrestlers continued the attack; Alyssa Campos led the way with a 12-0 decision, Jaxsen Aguilar with a 50 second pin, Aaron Turner had 38 second pin, Antonio Velasquez pinned his opponent in 38 seconds, and Zach Brooks had another 30 second pin.

Davis middle school wrestling took on Winters middle school Wednesday night. The Davis Grapplers continued the undefeated season moving to 4-0 in dual matches. Davis defeated Winters 80-12 giving up one loss and one forfeit out of 19 weight classes. Kosta Kristopulos 83lbs had two rapid take downs in the first round and battled his way to a 6-5 decision earning 3 team points. Tristen Wollrich 95lbs managed to control his opponent and pick up a 6-3 decision and 3 more team points. Aaron Turner 142lbs routed his opponent 12-0 with a major decision and 4 team points. James Davis 168lbs handled his opponent winning an 8-0 major decision and 4 team points. In exhibition matches: Zoe Pritchard 76lbs pinned her opponent in 25 seconds, Adrienna Turner 89lbs pinned her opponent in 30 seconds, Antonio Velasquez 142lb pinned his opponent in 33 seconds, Erica Villalobos Dias won 5-0. The Davis Grapplers face their next test Sunday, in Vacaville, as they enter the first Tournament of Champions Qualification (TOC) with hopes of individuals placing high enough to earn an invitation to the TOC in March.

 The Davis combined middle school wrestling team attended the first of 5 qualification tournaments with 23 wrestlers and brought home 14 medals and 5 potential Tournament Of Champion qualifiers. This is only the second year for middle school wrestling in Davis. In the JV bracket; Alyssa Campos 95lbs was second place, Noor Mashiana 108lbs was First place, Joseph Fields 112lbs was 3rd place, Joey Traverso 112lbs was first place, Cole Roben 128 lbs was second place, Sean Doherty 135lbs was first place, and Antonio Velasquez 142lbs was second place.

In the Varsity bracket qualifying for TOC was Adrienna Turner 89lbs who was 4-0 to finish in first place. Turner battled each match but her skillful wrestling, pure determination, and relentless attacks kept her opponents off balance. Turner is the first female wrestler from Davis to qualify for the TOC. Adam Turner 135lbs dominated his competition pinning three of his four opponents. Adam Turners skillful legs attacks were a pure work of poetry taking his competition from standing to their back. Adam Turner also took first place. Zach Brooks 185lbs who was the first ever Davis wrestler to qualify for the TOC last year returned to spread notice that Davis is a legitimate wrestling force. Brooks pinned

every opponent in the first round and has yet to be defeated or even taken the distance in any match he has wrestled this year. Ethan Rosendale 122lbs battled his way to second place with grit and fire to qualify for the TOC. Rosendale lost a close match in the finals throwing his opponent to his back as time expire before he could get the pin. Vance Tangren (7th grade) 153lbs used blazing speed to overwhelm most of his opponents placing second and qualifying for the TOC. Tangren was 3-1 with two pins in the tournament. Honorable mention to James Davis (7th grade) 153lbs who fell just short taking 3rd going 2-2 with 2 pins.

Davis Senior High and the City of Davis hasn’t been know as a wrestling power house. Today the trail blazing 7th and 8th graders put the valley on notice. Davis wrestling is here and it is rising faster the rivers around us in a storm. The Davis wrestlers are sweeping away those who have not prepared for the rising deep waters.
