Dear Davis Wrestling Family,
We are quickly approaching the Davis High Wrestling season, and I am pumped! We just finished our first week of pre-season conditioning, and we only have four more pre-season practices (October 16, 18, 23, and 25, from 4:00-5:30) before our actual season begins on Monday October 29.
Two VERY IMPORTANT events to put onto your calendar: November 4, 2018 from 10:00am to 1:00pm, we will be hosting our, “3rd Annual Davis Wrestling Paintball Friendraiser!” This event is a lot of fun every year, and the whole family is welcome. This Friendraiser is designed to build our Davis Wrestling Family and promote friendships outside the wrestling room. Davis Paintball is hosting the event again this year. They are located on the west side of Road 102 behind the go-kart track (near Nugget Fields). $40 dollars per person gets you unlimited paintball sessions, equipment rental and enough ammo for the first couple of sessions. I usually send my son with extra money for additional bags of paintballs. Davis Paintball will give a portion of the proceeds back to Davis Wrestling. For more information, contact Ben Wollrich.
On December 3, 2018, from 6:00 to 9:00pm, we will be having our Woodstocks Pizza Family Fun Night. Woodstocks has graciously offered their ENTIRE MENU, on both sides of the restaurant, for dine-in or takeout. We will end practice early that day (around 5:00pm), so wrestlers can go home, shower, and make it to Woodstocks. A whopping 25% of all proceeds will go to Davis Wrestling, so show up hungry!
Wrestling officially starts on Monday October 29, 2018. Practices will be Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 4:00 to 6:00. Practice on Wednesday will be from 4:00 to 6:30.
***EVERY 9th-12th grade student interested in wrestling this season must be registered with DHS Athletics. If your daughter or son wants to attend pre-season conditioning or wrestling practice, STUDENTS MUST BE REGISTERED BEFORE THEY CAN PARTICIPATE IN PRE-SEASON CONDTITIONING or WRESTLING PRACTICE!!!!! Your wrestler must have a sports physical completed, and it must be dated AFTER June 1st, 2018. Instructions on how to complete the athletic clearance, and the actual athletic clearance itself, can both be found here. Once your wrestler is registered through DHS Athletics, you will receive a clearance confirmation email. Please print the confirmation email, sign it, have your student-athlete sign it, and then bring it to me at practice.***
The DHS Wrestling gear store is closing on Friday November 2, 2018!!! Please order all of the gear you’ll need ASAP. Wrestlers will need a team t-shirt and a pair of mesh shorts. If your wrestler already has a singlet and headgear from previous seasons (the singlet must say Davis, or DHS, not DWC), they will not need a new singlet. I purchased a singlet for my son, who is on the high school team, and one for my daughter on the middle school team. I have included information on gear as an attachment.
We will have a mandatory Wrestling Parent Meeting on November 7, 2018, at 6:00pm. This parent meeting will cover forms that need to be signed, volunteer opportunities, and more DHS Wrestling housekeeping items we need to address in order to have a healthy wrestling program at DHS. I will need everyone to bring a copy of your driver license, and a copy of your current vehicle insurance card (parents will need to complete driver forms, even to drive your own child to/from wrestling events). Wrestling Hydration will be held at Pioneer High School on November 10, 2018. Hydration is mandatory to participate in CIF Wrestling, and the cost is $10. Please bring the $10 for Wrestling Hydration to the meeting. The meeting on November 7 will allow me to answer any other questions you might have about the season.
All of our 21 tournaments this year depend on the generous contributions of wrestling families. We have asked families to donate $200 dollars to the wrestling program. The parent meeting on November 7 is a good time to bring your family donation.
We are trying out a new Wrestling Team Communication App this season. Download the Team App (available on iPhones and Android platforms), and search for, "Davis Wrestling." The link to our Team App Homepage can be found here. Finally, like us on Facebook, and stay connected with the team.
We have exciting additional wrestling opportunities for families with younger children!
The Davis Junior High Wrestling Team starts practice October 22. Practices are held at Holmes Junior High School from 4:00 to 5:30pm. The Junior High Wrestling Team is open to all 6th, 7th and 8th graders in Davis. The middle school has an incredible dual-meet schedule this season, and I am looking forward to watching them compete. The Junior High Wrestling Parent meeting will be held Wednesday November 24, 2018, at 6:00pm in the Holmes Gym. I will be there as well, as I have a middle schooler wrestling this year. All 6th graders interested in wrestling will have to become members of Davis Wrestling Club, and will need a USA Wrestling Card. For more information, please contactHarmony.
